Once in a while, there’s a little voice in my head saying “You should write a novel that would be a “remake” of Shakespeare’s Macbeth !”.

That would certainly be cool. But I have so many short story and novel ideas and not that much time… I can afford writing all the poetry I want, and some philosophical observations, but the remaining time and energy isn’t that big. I don’t know how much I like the idea of waiting 35+ years to write novels as I’ll be retired.

What kind of link can we make between the 33 casualties at Virginia Tech and the 60 000+ casualties in Irak since 2003 ?

Follows the Grammy-award winning rock band System of a Down as they confront the issue of the Armenian genocide in 1915 Turkey and efforts by the Turkish government to deny it.

I had two thoughts in mind after the movie:

  • I don’t have any problem. Any.
  • There are two kinds of politicians: evil ones and corrupted ones.

Scientists believe it takes 21 days to form a new habit and complaining is habitual for most of us. As Twain said, we must coax our old behavior down the stairs. The bracelet(s) you receive are a powerful tool(s) to remind you of how well you are creating your life with positive intention. Here are the suggested rules:

1. Begin to wear the bracelet, on either wrist

2. When you catch yourself complaining, gossiping or criticizing (it’s ok, everyone does) move the bracelet to the other arm and begin again.

3. If you hear someone else who is wearing a bracelet complain, you may point out their need to switch the bracelet to the other arm; BUT if you’re going to do this, you must move your bracelet first!

4. Stay with it. It may take many months but when you reach 21 days you will find that your entire life is happier, more loving, more positive and more abundant.

Hum. My second reaction was to wonder if inner complaint counts, right after thinking about a co-worker who would get two tendonitis with that bracelet.

That’s a tough one.

But while thinking about it I wondered: does complaining about poverty, violence or war is a good thing ? Does criticizing my country for not doing enough about them is a good thing ? I think so.

Gossipers however should go straight to hell.

In the other hand, complaining about an issue doesn’t mean anything if I don’t do anything about it.

I assume we can say there is complaining in a positive spirit and complaining in a negative spirit. And that the target here is the second, not the first one. To stop living your life like a tragedy, like a victim. Yeah, amen to that.

But… Does inner negativity counts ? If someone treats me like garbage and yell in my head, I guess it counts. What if I don’t even just put it in words, if it’s just a feeling ?

Strange how it’s looks to me like Buddhism. Permanent compassion to free self from the suffering of the ego.

Is every hate unfair ? Every anger unfair ?

My first answer would be no. I’ll keep thinking about this.

Maybe I’m just pushing the thing too far (as usual). Maybe it’s just about not making big things of small things. And not about not making small things of big things.

Hum. I think I get it.

I ordered one bracelet. And I every time I’ll dramatize I’ll put a quarter in a complaint jar for charity. Hoping it will help some real tragedy.

I saw 300 Saturday.

When I read about Spartans in College, I felt more alike Athenians. Today, even if I’m (still) a lazy ass, I feel more related to Spartans. There is no compromise on their honor and freedom.

Some people might say this movie is an allegory of the fight of USA against the dark and evil spirit of Muslim world, I don’t think the American culture can be compared to Spartans.

USA is too decadent, too full of itself, too fat, too imperialist to be compared to the noble spirit of Spartans. They, however, could fit kind of well into the Persians in the movie.

Even if Bush isn’t a big fan of body piercing…

The movie didn’t deceive me, except maybe with the ugliness of the clerks. Could have been easier on the eyes.

I don’t know if 300 could have been better. Every story has it own potential. I don’t feel that much of it has been wasted.

But what I mostly like about a movie is how it can feed me. Very subjective, very punctual criteria. And this movie felt well for me.

I don’t know if I should call it bullshit news or garbage news. The BBC picked 12 countries and Canada stands as the most popular around the world.

Who is surprised that Canada has a better image around the world than USA (!), UK, Venezuela, Israel (!), China (!), Iran (!), Russia and North Korea (!!!) ??? There could have been some suspense with Japan (2nd), India and France (3rd), maybe…

But really, what’s the point of this news ? “Hey, folks, the world loves us better than North Korea ! All right !!!”

If you want to compare Canada with other countries, pick country with similar goals, cultures, foreign politics !

It would have been interesting to see if Canada’s role in Afghanistan and Harper as a PM make the Canada less popular around the world than, let’s say, Australia, New Zeland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Germany.

More than 50 percent of children in refugee camps around Africa’s volatile Great Lakes area have experienced some form of sexual abuse, a humanitarian group said in report Monday.

The kind of news leaving you speechless…

Last week, I was reading Retour à Haïfa  from Ghassan Kanafani. Several short stories about Palestine or around the Middle-East. Here is one paragraph that touched me more than others, from the short story Quelque chose à garder:

Laïla n’aimait pas que je la regarde dormir. Elle était persuadée que son visage la trahissait à ce moment-là. Et elle ne voulait pas que je connaisse ses sentiments à mon égard : elle craignait que cela ne flatte trop ma vanité.

Ghassan Kanafani (غسان كنفاني, born April 9, 1936 in Acre, Palestine – died July 8, 1972 in Beirut, Lebanon) was a Palestinian writer and a spokesman for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. He was assassinated by car bomb in Beirut; Some suspected Israeli security services to be involved in the killing, but responsibility has never been claimed by them or any other party nor has the guilty party been established.

I took it at the library. The book has been printed in 1997 but some corners of the page were still stuck together as I opened the book. Sad, but that’s nothing to compare when you look at the age this writer died…

The United States on Friday rejected an international call to abandon the use of cluster bombs, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.

Even if…

98% of 11,044 recorded cluster munitions casualties that are registered with Handicap International are civilians.

This is an ongoing human security project which maintains and updates the world’s only independent and comprehensive public database of media-reported civilian deaths in Iraq that have resulted from the 2003 military intervention by the USA and its allies. The count includes civilian deaths caused by coalition military action and by military or paramilitary responses to the coalition presence (e.g. insurgent and terrorist attacks).

Now that’s volunteering… !!

We kill their former leader to show them how civilized we are how things are going to improve as we are bringing this wonderful civilization in this barbarian land.

Does the UN Security Council sincerely expect to curb terrorist treats by punishing Iran to try to build up nuclear plants while Israel has nuclear weapons ? Does the UN Security Council really think they can obtain global security without global justice ?

Through the 21st century, could the nuclear waste be a bigger treat than any nuclear bomb ?

Could we see a world with a global ban on nuclear weapons (yeah, even the USA) ? Could we see a global ban on nuclear power plants ?

Right now, 50% of the US’s electricity come from coal and 20% from natural gas or petroleum. If we add the 20% coming from nuclear power, only 10% of the energy comes from a suitable, clean source.

Should the US increase their nuclear production to fight global warming ?

Saturday morning. 6AM. Thinking that Israel is on the second level of the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs while Palestine is on the first level.

Not many countries are upper than second level… Most of the poor or oppressed countries are stuck on the first level. And, these days, many rich countries are obsessed with security. Even if it’s because they don’t help poor and oppressed countries they have to face security issues.

Why can’t I sleep well Saturday morning anymore ?

The leading candidate to head the Liberal Party was defiant on Friday after opening a political can of worms with the charge that Israel committed war crimes during its Lebanon campaign this summer. That prompted angry complaints from Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper that the Liberals, who have more often than not run Canada, had taken an anti-Israel stance.

It easily can get a little confusing: how do you know if you’re against Israël and the Jewish people in general, if you’re anti-Semite ?

Here’s a little test to help:

Israël can do something wrong sometimes ?

a) Yes.

b) Every country can do bad things.

c) Well, in theory, I guess it could happen…

d) No, never, impossible.

If you answered a, b or c, you’re anti-Semite.

Now you can comment the situation in the Middle-East with the neutral opinion that everything Israel does is right.
